TikTok Addiction

A checklist, not a diagnosis

The problem is not that you like videos. It is that stopping got hard.

Problematic use looks like other behavioral addictions: more than you meant, worse when you try to cut down, life getting quietly smaller. Minutes help. Control matters more.

  1. 01

    Time distortion

Five minutes becomes fifty. You look up and the afternoon is gone.

  2. 02

    Automatic opening

The thumb does it. Waiting in line, at a red light, between two sentences of a message.

  3. 03

    Failed cut-backs

You deleted the app. You reinstalled it. Screen-time limits got snoozed.

  4. 04

    Restlessness without it

Boredom feels itchy. Silence feels like an error message.

  5. 05

    Late-night drift

Sleep is the first thing the feed eats because night has the fewest witnesses.

  6. 06

    Focus hangover

After a session, a book, a class, or a slow conversation feels almost physically effortful.

  7. 07

Mood that does not match the fun

You finish a session feeling flat, wired, or worse — and still go back.

  8. 08

    Crowding out

Friends, work, studying, cooking, going outside: delayed, then skipped.

If several of these are true most weeks, skip the argument about labels and look at the pattern. The self-check takes two minutes.
